for Friday May 29th 2020

Welcome to our fourth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.

Editorial Note: Fathers day, mentioned in the recording as June 14th, is actually June 21st. We apologize for misunderstandings.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,
Newsletter Committee

Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

Welcome to the 4th Edition of Virtual Voices, the e-newsletter from Mount Royal United Church. The first thing you are going to hear me say in the recording is "welcome to the 3rd edition".... Oops 4 weeks already.

Haven't we just had the most glorious week of weather? It felt like summer has already arrived. As I write this I just came in from a walk. Know why I know summer is nearly here? The June bugs are out in full force. I expect I am supposed to feel thankful for all the creatures of this Earth but truth be told, I have a strong dislike for the hissing sound of June bugs' wings, how they buzz you as they appear to fly right at you and we won't even talk about the idea of one getting stuck in your hair. I decided to google June bugs and here is one of the first things I found on a Wikipedia site:

"Are June bugs good for anything?
Their larvae are good for killing certain plants in your lawn and garden by eating the roots. The grubs are also very good food for chickens and other birds. The adults are good for scaring people witless when they smack into the window at night."

I can hear the bump on my kitchen window. Enough about June bugs.

Just a few little tidbits of information:

The virtual talent show is a go. Be sure to mark June 13th on your calendar.

The grocery gift cards have all been sold. Thanks to all those who supported their sale and to Terry Foreman for agreeing to look after that fundraiser.

The recipients for the Baker Family Scholarships have been decided. Be sure to watch the June 14th service for the scholarship presentations.

On behalf of the Newsletter Committee, thank you for tuning in to hear the weekly announcements. Thanks too for watching the online services and weekly meditations. The interest is very good and we always appreciate your comments and suggestions.

If you have any questions, please email me at councilchair@mountroyaluc.ca or call me at 855-7008.

Enjoy this week's edition of Virtual Voices and please remember to pass along any announcements of special activities to us at newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca

Be well and stay safe.
