Virtual Voices - 13th edition

Virtual Voices

The Video E-Newsletter
of Mount Royal United Church
for Friday September 4th 2020

Welcome to our thirteenth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. This week instead of the video, you will find an update from Council Chair Susan Fowler.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

A quick reminder that our Sunday services are now live streamed from the sanctuary at 9:30 and these can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 9:15 with music and the announcement slides before the service begins with Rev. Stuart.

The weekly bulletin will be available here.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,
Newsletter Committee

Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

Hello Mount Royal Friends. Welcome to this week's Virtual Voices, in text form, as we did not record at the church. I hope this finds you well.

This week we welcome back from vacation: Rev. Stuart, Tracy in the office, Wayne our custodian and France our music director. We hope they feel renewed after time away from their work responsibilities.  Please contact Rev. Stuart if you have any pastoral care needs.

Lots of things were happening at and around the church during August even though staff were on vacation. Pastoral Care calls were made, the building, garden and lawn maintenance still went on, donations mailed to or dropped at the church were deposited, finances crunched and installation of new equipment for live streamed services and other special events in the sanctuary has taken place. Thanks to all those who carried on the necessary work around our building.

Speaking of gardening, if you talk to Ina Freeman and Esther Mah, please give them a shout out and let them know how much we have appreciated all their efforts to keep our gardens looking great and our door entrances looking inviting. Thank you both very much.

Ina has indicated a desire to retire after many years of keeping our gardens weeded and watered and decorated appropriately for the current season. If this is something you would be interested in volunteering to do, please contact the church office at 506-855-5771 or office@mountroyaluc.ca

Thanks to all who took the time to respond to the recent survey by phone or on-line. The results have been presented to the Ad Hoc Committee on Re-Entry or in person attendance and a recommendation will be made to Council at its next meeting on September 15th.

As Council contemplates possible fundraisers for this fall, your responses and suggestions concerning which ones you might consider supporting will be very helpful. And thank you as well to those people who replied they would be interested in doing a more detailed survey on church life. If you did not reply yes, but would like to participate this fall, please leave your name and contact information (email and/or phone number) at the church office at office@mountroyaluc.ca or 506-855-5771.

School starts next week for students and we will remember all the staff and children as they return to classes. Good luck everyone for the school year!

We also continue to give thanks to all of our essential workers, those in our grocery stores and pharmacies, our truck drivers and health care workers. Thanks to all of them who continue to care for us daily.

We have a few folks celebrating birthdays this week: Nancy Brown, Jean Taylor, Terry Foreman and Donna Oke. Happy Birthday to these members of our Community of Faith and any others marking special occasions.

I want to remind you that if you are watching the services but have not signed up to receive email messages from the church, you can do so from the church website. See the screen shot below. Click on "Contact" and then "Email sign up new".

This Sunday our live streamed worship service resumes from the sanctuary at 9:30. Please join us for the prelude music beginning at 9:15.

If you have comments or suggestions concerning worship services, please contact the Worship Committee Chair, Ilene Maund at worship@mountroyaluc.ca.

With donations still coming in, the Systems Committee Capital Campaign total sits at $6020.00. That is great news. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to date towards our $9000.00 goal. If you can make a donation of any amount and help wrap up this campaign in the next short while, it would be greatly appreciated.

And as always, thank you to everyone who has continued to send contributions to the church since the closure of our building to in person attendance last March. We heard people's comments in the survey about wishing our mail slot went inside the building or we had a locked mailbox outside the Mount Royal door. Property and Maintenance will consider this again but know that the office is open at least three days per week.

You can also make your donations by cheque or electronically through our church website www.mountroyaluc.ca . Please see Ways to Give in the menu.

Have a great week. We will join you again soon with a video version of Virtual Voices.
