Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

I was going through a drawer filled with homemade cards the other day. All of them were made by my daughters, now 31 and almost 33. Some were day care creations; others made with the help of their afterschool caregivers or Grandmothers. I wonder what memories flooded back as my Mom or Mother-in Law helped them print their names and colour flowers or cut out hearts from construction paper.

My plan was to read them, treasure them one more time and then part with them for good. They ended up back in the drawer for another year. Some year I will be able to throw them away- just not May 2021. There are so many that pull at my heart strings: Christmas and Easter; a few for anniversaries and lots of birthday wishes and Valentines. But the ones I loved rereading the most were the Mother's Day cards. They are all so cute with drawings of animals that I can't quite recognize and little scrawls intended to be words. But all of them, whether written alone or with the help of a caregiver or a Grandmother say "I Love You Mom" or "Thanks for Loving Me". How can I possibly part with them?

On Sunday, whether you are a Mother or just remember your own, take a moment to reflect on why we acknowledge Mother's Day. I hope there is a woman, your own Mother or someone else, that made a positive difference in your life and you are blessed to have warm memories.

Here's a little Skit Guys video in honour of Mothers. I hope you enjoy it.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or comments.
