Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

Hi - were you happy to see a bit of snow? I was and at the same time wishing it would blow in some Christmas spirit. We didn't really get all I was hoping for, but it was just the right amount to clean things up and not so much we had to spend hours shoveling. Don't get me wrong. I like to shovel, but only when the temperature is great for being outside, I don't have any place to be in a big rush and the wind isn't blowing it back onto the walk as fast as I clear it away. The joys of winter in New Brunswick...I wouldn't want to live any place else.

Speaking of Christmas spirit, does anything help bring that on like singing Christmas carols? And that is what we have to offer you on Sunday evening at 7PM. While there has been a lot of uncertainty around whether the carol sing would be held outside, that decision has been made. It will be in the sanctuary with the beautiful Christmas decorations. And while we won't be serving hot chocolate inside, unless Government of New Brunswick (GNB) requirements around COVID change by Sunday, singing with masks is permitted if all attendees are fully vaccinated. And surely singing Christmas carols will boost all our spirits. Come and make a joyful noise!

Can't join in person? It will be live streamed with music beginning at 6:45PM.

I contacted the GNB helpline and was told a carol sing is like a gathering so if attendees are unvaccinated singing by the congregation is not permitted. It is hard to ask that unvaccinated children remain at home but more difficult to invite you to a carol sing and say you can only listen and not join in.

The GNB confirmation did say a service of worship is different. I asked specifically about Christmas Eve when we want to encourage families to attend and at the same time allow singing with masks. The reply was that singing is permitted with unvaccinated children present for a service of worship. Please remember we are asking people to pre-register for the Christmas Eve service only. The registration form is in the menu on the church website.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Stay safe.
