for Friday January 7th 2022

Welcome to our seventy seventh edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

A quick reminder that our Sunday Service is live streamed from the sanctuary  beginning at 10:30 AM and can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 10:15 AM with music and the announcement slides before the service begins with Rev. Stuart.

The weekly bulletin will be available here.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,
Newsletter Committee

NO THERE IS NOT IN PERSON ATTENDANCE
FOR THE SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE THIS WEEK
IT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE LIVE STREAM

Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

Hi. Hope this finds you well after the holiday period. Here are your announcements for the week beginning January 7th. You will see us back in video format next week.

The biggest news to pass along is that, with Omicron being very contagious and Health Department officials asking people to keep their contacts very low, Council has voted to suspend in person attendance for worship at this time. The COVID situation will be monitored, and the decision on when to reopen, assessed periodically.

Of course, you are still able to join in weekly worship via our live stream which begins Sunday mornings with live music at 10:15 and the service at 10:30. After worship, a recording of the service can be viewed at your convenience, in the video archives on the church website.

Council also decided that there will be no in person gatherings or meetings for now. That means no Tai Chi, Craft Group, Art Club etc. currently. Leaders will be in touch when those groups can meet again. As well, Council and Committee meetings will take place virtually.

The Worship Committee will meet Monday at 7PM via Teams. There is no choir practice this week.

Jan 9th we will be having Communion. Please gather your elements before the service begins. You can always pause the live stream at that part of the service to go get your items, but it would be nicer to have them ready in advance.  We celebrate Epiphany on that date as well. The sermon is entitled "Children of God" and the scripture reading is Luke 3:15-16, 21-22. I hope you will join us online.

I want to extend thanks to all those people who gave donations for Memorial Tree Bulb Dedications. There were a few more that came in this past week. All the dedications can be viewed in the bulletin for Dec 19th and on Jan 9th.

The date for an annual meeting has not been set but we do hope to have one this year in a hybrid in person/online format. Committee Chairs for Council: Please submit your reports for the 2021 year to Tracy in the office at your earliest convenience.

For several weeks announcements were made asking for Committee Chairs for Council. I spoke to Ron Roper, the Nominations Committee Chair, this past week, and several key positions remain unfilled. We have an immediate need for a Chair of the Worship Committee and would also love some new members to join. And the one mandatory committee each Community of Faith must have is Ministry and Personnel. We also need a chair and some new members for that committee. I am awaiting confirmation as to whether we are still in need of a Treasurer.

COVID also means extra calls to members of our church family. If you can help there, please contact Valerie Tremble. If Communications is your passion, please reach out to Kim Christie Gallant. Really, there is room for all so please consider how you might give back to your church family.

Birthday wishes are extended to Doreen Lane, Mae Chapman, and Ron Berry. Our very best wishes to these folks and anyone else celebrating. And prayers and good wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Doreen this week.

There are a few grocery gift cards left for sale. Let's get this sale wrapped up as early in the New Year as possible. Contact Terry Foreman at grocerycards@mountroyaluc.ca or by phone 506 388-4887 or contact Tracy in the office at 506 855-5771.

And if you are looking for any virtual educational sessions available through the United Church, please check out the websites for the United Church of Canada united-church.ca or by checking the Fundy St Lawrence Dawning Waters Regional website https://ucceast.ca/fundy-st-lawrence-dawning-waters-regional-council-14

And finally, this week, Rev Stuart's trivia question, if you missed it, on January 2nd was "What does Emmanuel mean?" As he said, we hear it, sing it, and say it all the time but do we know its meaning. Reach out to him if you want to share your ideas: minister@mountroyaluc.ca

Thank you for your ongoing financial support of MRUC. And your calls and letters and emails are appreciated as well.

Take care and stay safe.
