Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

As I write this message, we are expecting our third consecutive weekend storm. I remember when I was working, I used to hope for huge snowstorms provided they happened Monday to Friday. In the 30 plus years I worked in Shediac and drove there from Moncton, there were only a couple of days the office was closed and a handful more when the office opening was delayed long enough for the parking lot and snow around the building to be cleared sufficiently. So much for wearing my pyjamas inside out and hopping backwards on my left foot as part of my storm dance.

I worked in an office that served the whole country, so it was important for us to be open. People in Victoria enjoying sunshine and flowers couldn't understand an office closure because of a snowstorm on the East Coast. In those days we had no capability to work from home. Then COVID hit and in no time 700 + employees from my former office were working remotely.

Technology allows us to do lots of neat things, including gathering virtually. On the 28th from 7-8 PM, I hope you will take part in Silliness and Sweets, a chance to see and/or chat with members of your Faith Family. See the article on the church website with the link to join the conversation via Teams or use the telephone and phone conference ID numbers to call in. You can check in any time after 6:30PM.

We recorded the announcements while NB was in Level 3 of the Winter Plan. On Jan. 28th at 11:59, we will move back to Level 2. For this Sunday, Jan 30th there will be no in person worship. We'll be watching the weather closely on the weekend and whether Rev Stuart records from the church or his home, we will have a service for you to watch if there is electricity and internet. Please join us for worship Sunday morning.

Be careful in the weekend weather. Tuesday is Groundhog Day, and we will see whether we are in for another 6 weeks of winter. Between you and me, I don't really put much stock in the groundhog seeing his shadow making a difference in this part of the country.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have comments or questions.
