There is a lot going on in the world. Front of mind for many in Canada and in our own community and faith family is the news that Russia has invaded Ukraine. We will all be watching that closely and praying for a rapid conclusion to the aggression. This week's announcements focus on our 2022 Mount Royal Lenten Journey. Please listen to Esther and I outline various upcoming activities taking place between March 2nd and April 17th. We all look forward to Easter but there are plenty of ways to live out your personal Lenten Journey before that Sunday. March 2 - 6:30 PM Ash Wednesday Service: We would love to have a great turnout for in person worship for this very meaningful service. It will also be live streamed with live music beginning at 6:15. There will be ashes available in individual containers for anyone who wishes to have them. Please call the church office and make plans to pick them up in advance of the service if you are watching online or they can be delivered to your home. Daily Lenten Devotional: Rev. Stuart is planning to post a daily devotion throughout Lent which you will find on the church website. Lenten study: Sunday evenings 6-7PM via Teams with video and telephone dial in options. It will be based on the book "Meditations on the Cross" by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Please contact Rev. Stuart without delay if you wish to participate in that Lenten study. Lenten photo scavenger hunt: The Christian Development Committee is inviting the young or young at heart to participate in a photo scavenger hunt by taking pictures of Lenten symbols or words that reflect the season or biblical story for the week. A list of suggested items can be found on the church website. Please email your photos to cdc@mountroyaluc.ca and remember to identify in your email the week that your photo is associated with so they can be easily sorted. A photo collage will be created and used during worship after Easter. Community donations: This year we have chosen six organizations to support. They were asked to provide their wish lists and the details can be found on the church website. A donation to any of the various organizations would be much appreciated. "40 Gestures Supporting Mindfulness & Presence": This activity is made available through Janice MacLean and The Prayer Bench. It encourages us to make simple gestures, to live our lives in the moment and see the gifts that can bring. It will be a scavenger hunt of items you have at home. Watch for details on how you can participate. Good Friday Service at Mount Royal at 7 PM on April 15th: Please plan to attend and invite your friends and neighbours. It will be a solemn funeral of Christ type service. Easter Sunday April 17th: Of course, we all look forward to the joy and hope that Easter brings each year. While there are studies, activities and mindfulness exercises you can participate in, please also join us for weekly worship during Lent. Each week there will be a variation on the theme of journeying. I want to encourage you, as you feel comfortable, to return to in person worship. All services will continue to be live streamed. As you can see there is lots going on available in person and online. Please join in to enrich your personal Lenten journey and to enjoy the fellowship of seeing and chatting with other members in your Mount Royal Family. Stay well.
