of Mount Royal United Church
for Friday July 15th 2022

Welcome to our one-hundredth and fourth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

A quick reminder that our Sunday Service is live streamed from the sanctuary  beginning at 10:30 AM and can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 10:15 AM with music and the announcement slides before the service begins with Rev. Stuart.

The weekly bulletin will be available here.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,
Newsletter Committee

Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

Hope you've had a good week. The weather was beautiful. Did you manage to catch the supermoon on Wednesday evening? It was magnificent, so full, and almost amber in colour. A supermoon happens when the moon is full, and its orbit is very close to Earth.

You might also have seen some of the James Webb Space Telescope pictures this week. Fascinating photos from the most powerful telescope to date. Isn't it fascinating to know how much more is out there in space than we previously knew or understood?

Announcements specific to this week are again light: Sat AM Tai Chi with Stephen and Tuesday morning Craft Group at 10. Weather permitting, the Tues. gathering will be on the lawn between the church and the Bessborough Avenue parking lot. If it rains, Craft Group will meet inside, in the kitchen. And the mid-week short worship service is available for viewing on the website Wednesdays at 9 AM or any time after.

Here's a reminder about the "I Wonder" box. Do you have questions? Are there things you have been pondering about the church or our Community of Faith? Is there a passage of scripture that you don't understand? Please send in your questions or drop them in the box at the back of the sanctuary. It's your chance to ask whatever you have been wondering about for a very long time or something that has just come up lately. Submit your questions and Rev. Stuart will read and answer one weekly during the announcements.

We are hoping to have BLAST restarting this fall. It's been such a long while since the children have been in church. Can you help us get things back to pre-Covid days? If you are willing to give a hand, share in the teaching rotations, or plan curriculum materials, please advise Tracy in the office, or contact cdc@mountroyaluc.ca

And along with welcoming back the children, we plan to have a bit of an open house on September 18th. We'll be welcoming people in our community and beyond. There are many newcomers in our neighbourhood and of course with livestreaming our reach is limitless.

Rev. Stuart wants to remind us of movie night on July 29th at 7 PM, Julie and Julia and of his fall study on the book "Forgiving Yourself".

Are you sometimes distracted from putting your focus on God? You are not alone. Join worship this week and hear the message entitled "Lamp Pole". That sounds intriguing. Jean Lawlor will be reading the scripture from Luke 10: 38-42. And this week's anthem, by Lee Wilson and France Henriques, is called "Bring Back the Springtime".

Before I close, here are the known celebrations for the upcoming week: Happy Birthday to Shirley Ritcey, Kay Stoddard, Lois Wardrop and belated wishes to Myles Thorne last week on July 10th. And Happy Anniversary to Mike and Penny McIntyre on the 17th. Please send your announcements to Tracy in the office and congratulations and best wishes to anyone celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion.

Thank you for your messages of support and questions and concerns about your Mount Royal family. Please reach out any time. Email is best this time of year.
