Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

It’s great to welcome back Cathy and Erik for Virtual Voices this week. They are such a great pair for chattering back and forth. You’ll hear all about what is coming up during Advent, this week’s worship service and Erik shares the fabulous results from the pancake breakfast.

I can’t hide my delight over us being able hold a rummage sale and pancake breakfast this fall. As we talked about it at Council, everyone was thrilled that we made a significant amount of money. Being unable to hold fundraisers that brought people together for the past couple of years has meant a significant change in our financial position. While our givings have remained quite stable, we are down at least $40,000.00 in fundraising since the start of Covid.

The thing most of us talked about, however, was how nice it was to see folks chatting and working alongside one another. People who have volunteered for years were back folding clothes and sorting rummage sale tables or mixing batter or eggs and making toast or washing dishes at the breakfast. It was great to have new people as well, enjoying the breakfast and serving and resetting the tables. We loved having the young people volunteering as well.

Another very special moment was hearing that the Craft Group and UCW made donations to the church, possible in part because of hosting Thursday afternoon bridge parties again. Thanks to them for their hard work and generosity.

Speaking of things to celebrate, this week we wish happy birthday to Bill Reicker and Ron Roper. If there is anyone else celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, we wish you the best.

Sunday we will be celebrating the sacrament of communion. If you are joining us online for worship, be sure to have your elements ready before you start to watch.

Stay well. Be sure to message me if you have any questions.
