Welcome to our one-hundredth and twenty-fifth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

A quick reminder that our Sunday Service is live streamed from the sanctuary  beginning at 10:30 AM and can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 10:05 AM with music and the announcement slides before the service begins with Rev. Stuart.

The weekly bulletin will be available here.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,

Message from the Chair of Council - Susan Fowler

Welcome to the announcements for Mount Royal United Church, Moncton. There’s lots to share this week.

Besides resolutions, what things remind you of the New Year? New Years’ babies of course. And “we” welcomed one on January 1st. Sadie Jane, daughter of Courtney Donovan and Tristan Follows was born the first day of the year. Proud Mount Royal Grandparents are Jane and Larry Donovan. Congratulations All. Here is a picture of little Sadie wearing a knitted cap made by Jean Cherry. Jean died last September, and her handiwork made its way to Sadie. Mom Courtney and Jean definitely shared a love of basketball. Isn’t that special!

In other celebrations, birthday greetings go out to Doreen Lane, Mae Chapman and Ron Berry this week. Best wishes to them and anyone else celebrating a birthday, anniversary of other special occasion. Be sure to contact Emily in the office if you have celebrations to pass along. office@mountroyaluc.ca

In addition to Tai Chi Monday, Wednesday and Friday AM, Craft Group continues Tuesday at 10:00 AM followed by the monthly UCW meeting at 11:30 in the boardroom. Thursday at 1PM bridge for registered players takes place. The Scouting and Guiding Groups resume meeting this week. And Sunday following worship, there will be coffee and conversation in the social hall. Any assistance setting tables and chairs, contributing food, or washing dishes is always appreciated.

The Pastoral Care Committee meets Monday, January 9th at 11:30 AM and the Worship Committee that evening at 7PM; both with very important business of the church. If you know of pastoral care needs and have permission, please pass along requests to Rev. Stuart at revstuart@mountroyaluc.ca or Eleanor Nicholson at 506 854-2578 or Emily in the office. Do you have ideas for worship? Contact the Worship Committee Chair at worship@mountroyaluc.ca

1st Jones Lake Scouting is holding a bottle drive on Saturday Jan 7th beginning at 9 AM (storm date Jan 14th). Please leave your donations outside with a note saying the recycling is for 1st Jones Lake Scouting. You can call Dawn at 506 878-9006 for a special pick up.

Kid’s Korner resumes on January 15th and then again on the 29th. Other weeks there are pew packs (activity bags) for children to use while in church. If the greeter doesn’t offer one, please ask. They have lots of fun things to use during the service. And even if there is no program downstairs (currently every second week) the children are welcome to join Rev Stuart up front for the Learning Time.

By now, you may be tired of hearing me talk about the “Living in Transformative Change” conversation taking place Sunday Jan 15th from 3-5 PM. I’m not tired of hearing from you. In fact, I’m hearing very little from members of this Community of Faith willing to take part. That’s disappointing. Change is inevitable. Let’s get ahead of it and plan for our future rather than let it set the direction. Come join in this important conversation and hear what the United Church is noting. Then, if you wish, stay to chat over pizza and discuss what we see happening at Mount Royal. Council wants to know what you think and really wants you to participate. Contact me by January 8th to confirm your interest in attending at councilchair@mountroyaluc.ca

We are excited to be able to announce that the next Lunch With Friends happens on Jan 19th and the menu is Potato Bacon Soup (gluten free), dessert, tea or coffee. A short program will follow. Cost is $7.00 payable at the luncheon. To order the correct amount of food please confirm your attendance by completing the sign-up sheet at the back of the church or by calling the office not later than Monday, January 16th at 2PM. If you are unable to attend after registering, please invite someone to take your place. We don’t want to waste the food (no waste is so important for many reasons these days) nor pay for a meal when no one is there to eat it. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this popular community event.

This week we celebrate the baptism of Jesus during worship. We’ll have a Moment for Mission and Tracy will be the reader. She’ll be reading from Luke 3: 15-23. The sermon is entitled “God is Speaking” and the anthem will be by Grant Blakney playing “The Song of Twilight”.

Rev Stuart is offering a Lenten study on the book “ Building God’s Beloved Community: Discipleship in the United Church”. I am sure he will be chatting about it in the next couple of months. See details about ordering the book from the United Church bookstore in his weekly message. If you subscribe to the bookstore’s email distribution, not only will you receive promotional information about their offerings but you can receive a 10% discount off your first order.

Just one last important announcement specifically for Committee Chairs. The deadline for providing Emily with submissions for the Annual Report is January 9th. The Annual Meeting date hasn’t been set but let’s get those reports in to give Emily lots of time to distribute the material in advance of the Annual Meeting. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I understand we had strong financial contributions to finish off 2022. Thank you for your support all year. It is heartwarming to see how this Community of Faith always steps up.

As always, contact me if you have questions. Have a great week.
