for Friday April 14th 2023

Welcome to our one-hundredth and thirty-ninth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

A quick reminder that our Sunday Service is live streamed from the sanctuary  beginning at 10:30 AM and can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 10:15 AM with music and the announcement slides before the service begins with Rev. Stuart.

The weekly bulletin will be available here.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,
Newsletter Committee

Message from - a member of our Community of Faith, Susan Fowler

Thanks for checking out this week’s announcements. Many are repeated in the weeks leading up to big events at the church (fundraisers like the rummage sale and pancake breakfast and this year, the particularly important Visioning exercise which is key to our future) but a couple this week are to highlight activities that happen this week only or once a year.

The first one is that beginning Sunday we acknowledge Earth Week. The United Church talks lots about caring for our planet and trying to turn back the destruction that has happened over many years. If you are someone who cares deeply about our world, and wonders about the church’s position on the state of nature and climate change, be sure to look at that section on the website for the United Church. You can find it here

Next, Lee Wilson and I talk about it during Virtual Voices but I can’t highlight enough, the significant role volunteers play around Mt Royal. They help with so many facets of church life. Many organizations offer gifts or invite their volunteers out to dinner. We don’t shower them with praise and gifts but we sincerely appreciate their many hours of dedicated and caring service. We have quite a few people helping but we need many more to reduce the burden. Some of these folks have been volunteering for more than 25 years and others give their time week after week. Won’t you please think about where and how you could offer a few hours per month or when we have one off events like sprucing up the grounds or building. Email me if you have any questions or want to know where we could use extra hands and shared talents. And take some time during Volunteer Week to thank someone who makes your life better.

I try to include community events but sometimes my good intentions are forgotten by the time the script for Virtual Voices is written. The Ukrainian community of Moncton celebrates Easter this week with a bazaar you are welcome to attend. It will happen on Sunday, April 16th from 11 AM to 5 PM at 22 Church Street, Moncton. There will be traditional food and egg painting, music and cultural exhibits. Admission is by donation and the proceeds will go towards the purchase of tactical medical supplies for soldiers fighting in the Ukraine. I understand that more than 800 Ukrainians have arrived in the Moncton area since the start of the conflict with Russia.

Have a good week. I hope to see you and an entourage of neighbours and friends at the rummage sale. I can’t wait to see what items garner interest from this Spring’s shoppers. There is always something special that can be repurposed and rehomed.
