of Mount Royal United Church
for Friday June 2nd 2023

Welcome to our one-hundredth and forty-sixth edition of the Mount Royal United Church Video E-Newsletter. You will find the video at the bottom of this message.

If you have any news items or information you think we should be including in an upcoming e-newsletter, please send your suggestion to newsletters@mountroyaluc.ca we will do our very best to put it on for you.

A quick reminder that our Sunday Service is live streamed from the sanctuary  beginning at 10:30 AM and can also be watched later on the church website. The Prelude will begin at 10:15 AM with music and the announcement slides before the service begins with Rev. Stuart.

The weekly bulletin will be available here.

This video will be produced and sent out weekly on Friday morning with all the important things from our faith community. We plan to keep them short so you have time to drink a cup of tea or coffee while you watch.

We hope you have a very good day today.
Best Regards,
Newsletter Committee

Message from - a member of our Community of Faith, Susan Fowler

Hi. Hope this finds you well.

It’s a big Sunday at Mount Royal. June 4th marks the Kids Korner closing with games and ice cream sundaes for coffee and conversation. It should be lots of fun for all ages.

I hope you will join us for worship this week either in person or online. Rev. Stuart’s message is entitled “Hope” and Esther and Joe will be singing a duet, “Living Hope”. The Minute for Mission will be about the United Church’s encouragement of a guaranteed liveable income for all and, if you like to read the scripture lessons before you hear them during the worship service, the readings will be Psalm 8, Jeremiah 29: 4-14 and Matthew 28: 16-20. I see that Rev. Stuart will be inviting people to share their hopes for the Community of Faith.

It is also Ensor Nicholson’s birthday on Sunday so our best wishes to him and anyone else celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion this week.

Things are winding down, but Craft Group meets Tuesday at 10:00 AM; it looks like Writer’s Circle will meet Wednesday at noon. Wed evening anyone interested in planning our September Community Welcome event is invited to meet in the boardroom on Wednesday at 7PM. The more folks we have attend the better. If you have ideas but cannot attend, please send them via the Council Chair email at the end of this message.

Our ongoing reminders at Mt Royal include UCW collecting used eye glasses and pop can tabs which can be left in the pink paper covered box at the Bessborough door, we still have a few Sobeys gift cards to sell to close out this fundraiser, your donations of non-perishable food items can be left for the Peter McKee food depot and the “I Wonder” box is still at the back of the sanctuary for your burning questions.

And if you are wondering about summer services, we are closed after the July 30th service until after Labour Day weekend. Summer worship in June and July continues at 10:30 AM and we are looking forward to a baptism, always a highlight for a Community of Faith.

If you are not on PAR (pre-authorized remittance), please remember that even when the office is closed and staff is on vacation, we still have expenses like salaries and benefits, insurance, phone and internet and yard care to name but a few. If you can help by making a donation before you go on vacation or leave for the cottage or camping or before the office closes for vacation, it would be very helpful to our Community of Faith. PAR is always the easiest way to help the church manage its monthly expenses and budget effectively for the year. Have questions? Contact Emily in the office to sign up.

I want to share that Mt Royal has offered the sanctuary on June 11 at 3 PM for a performance of classical music. Two renowned pianists, sponsored by the Looking at the Stars Foundation, will be performing. While the Foundation offers classical music to people unlikely to have access to it, (for example, inmates living in institutions) the Moncton concert, like the one held earlier in Halifax, will benefit Ukrainian newcomers.

That’s about all for this week. Thanks to all for ongoing support of time and energy.
